Crochet flowers...HOW?
It seems like crocheted flowers are HUGE at the moment and I am loving how they are looking on people's pages. Now I know I could go and buy some, but I think I would really rather know how to make my own. (I am on a very tight budget too.) I never learned to crochet when I was younger, (mum & nana were both knitters), but would love to learn now. (I really only want to make simple flowers though.) Any suggestions on the best place to start??? Library? Internet? Help me!!!
Re: Crochet flowers...HOW?
OMG, so funny you should ask this Sue, i went and bought a crochet hook from spotlight yesty and have some crochet wool from kmart!! I also want to learn how to do it!! I plan to use google as my resource. My mum and her mum were knitters as well. My dad's mum did a bit of both, but we only ever knitted and now it is too late to learn from her!! So i will need to teach myself!! We can learn together!! lol!!
Re: Crochet flowers...HOW?
I can crochet girls but you'll have to come to Perth so I can teach you!! I think your best bet is probably to find out if the library has a book for beginners or like Vicki suggested: Google it. I even get my flower patterns from the internet by typing: 'Free crochet flower patterns'. There are thousands of sites... just takes time to go throught them all.
My offer to come to Perth is still standing!

The question is though Marelize....Can you learn to crotchet from pics....I look at them and get all confused? Any recommendations?
I would love to learn too - but Perth is just a little bit too far.....!

Lol Anthea! Wouldn't that be nice if you all come to visit though!!
I suppose a dvd/video would be better or maybe there's a Youtube video somewhere??

Now that is good thinking ....at least then it will actually show you what to do - much better than pictures. Will see what I can find.
Re: Crochet flowers...HOW?
My mum still crochets, she made two bibs, one for my sil and brothers baby and one for my baby! I really should ask her to show me. Pity she is living in Alice Springs atm!

Re: Crochet flowers...HOW?
Lol Retta, don't ask her to show you, just ask her to make flowers for you!!
Re: Crochet flowers...HOW?
That was my original point to begin with Vicki. Why learn when you can convince someone to do them for you....?
Re: Crochet flowers...HOW?
Well if there are any volunteers to make them for me and save me some time, I would REALLY appreciate it!!!
Re: Crochet flowers...HOW?

Re: Crochet flowers...HOW?
I had a quick trip to Spotlight today and looked in the crochet section but had no idea what I was looking at / for in terms of hook sizes, yarns, etc, so didnt buy anything...LOL
I think I need to do some reading first and figure out what I need before I go looking so I dont just totally confuse myself.

Re: Crochet flowers...HOW?
As a guide Sue (and bear in mind I don't normally do fine crochet) I have been using either a 2mm or 3.5 mm hook and 4 ply crochet cotton. Don't get 4 ply wool. Hooks are a couple of dollars and the crochet cotton was $3something in Big W the other day

Re: Crochet flowers...HOW?
Cool! Thanks Becci!
Now at least I have some idea of where to start. I think I will have a look in Big W for supplies then, coz I dont think Spotlight was that cheap...
BTW - if I just start making stuff in white, will spraying with GM work to colour them? I have seen some really cool BRIGHT coloured stuff out there, but assume they are using coloured cottons to start or just dying with fabric dye?
